A core principle behind United Nations Agenda 2030 is to leave no-one behind. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) grew from a conviction that poverty, hunger, inequality, discrimination can be tackled through creative collaboration and cooperation across international divides.
As educators from Germany, Slovenia and United Kingdom, we set out to explore how these ambitious and universal global goals could be harnessed in our respective educational systems. The stated aim to leave no-one behind captured our imaginations.
Over a period of three years, we explored how the Sustainable Development Goals can improve learning and motivation for Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) students and those from migrant and minority backgrounds.
This web resource provides a selection of classroom-based activities for both special education and mainstream secondary schools. The reasoning behind the project methodologies and approach is articulated in the teacher guidance section. Our aim is to showcase the power and potential of using the Sustainable Development Goals within the curriculum as a catalyst for greater engagement, personal development and social change for young people.
